Spill Journal: SSL Kolkata
SSL Kolkata, a 150-metre general cargo vessel, came into trouble off the coast of India in June 2018 when a fire erupted following an explosion on board. All crew members were safely evacuated from the stricken vessel which remained adrift until she ran aground approximately 7.5 nautical miles from the Indian Sundarbans, Kolkata, a UNESCO World Heritage site. OSRL were mobilised to respond to a potential spill under RESPONSECON.
Shane Jacobs talks about the process which we went through to help with the response operations.
