Christina Nikolova

Aberdeen Representative

Christina has a background in marine biology, holding a PhD in Environmental Microbiology  and Biotechnology. Her PhD research was focused on developing microbial biosurfactants for the oil and gas industry including oil spill response. Christina also received bespoke industry-provided oil and gas training including petroleum geology, petroleum engineering and economics, environmental impacts and oil spill response, unconventional oil reservoirs, and project management.

After completing her PhD, Christina worked as a marine ecologist in the UK’s Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) conducting sensitivity assessments for deep-sea and tropical marine habitats, environmental survey data analysis and curation, and participating in marine monitoring surveys.

In 2015, Christina did a one-year student placement in Shell, Aberdeen, working as their assistant environmental advisor for Wells. During her time in Shell, Christina also worked on oil spill analysis and mitigation, oil spill modelling and preparedness projects.

Christina currently works as Aberdeen Representative based in Aberdeen providing emergency preparedness and response readiness services mainly to UKCS members but also globally.
