Alongside conducting various exercises interwoven within your learning, during this course, you will cover the following topics:
- Causes and fates of marine oil spills
- Awareness of contingency planning, its importance and its use
- Monitoring and evaluating of oil spills, alongside environmental considerations
- Overview of response strategies, including containment and protection, booming, and Shoreline Cleanup Assessment Technique (SCAT)
- Practicalities of oil spills, including the various hazards to responders and safety aspects to consider
- Overview of response equipment, including recovery devices and a tour of a Tier 3 stockpile
- The management structure of spill response, including the daily tasks, the importance of log keeping, briefings, and communications to be carried out
- Waste management and disposal
