Offshore Safety Directive - A Workshop for Danish Operators

Thursday, June 9, 2016

Last month Rosie Buse, our Principle Consultant, and I, facilitated a workshop in Copenhagen for Danish Operators; amongst them were DONG Energy and Maersk, and the Danish Environment and Protection Agency (DEPA). The workshop focused on the Offshore Safety Directive (OSD) and its implementation in the UK and other EU Member States.

OSRL has been involved in the UK's implementation of the OSD, by investigating what constitutes a Major Environmental Incident (MEI), attending industry ENVIDs, compiling a Response Effectiveness Study in the UK and consultation on the OSD Guidance. Due to this involvement and level of understanding, we were able to share our experiences and assist our Members in Denmark to understand and implement the OSD.

In Denmark, DEPA are working with the Danish Working Environment Authority (DWEA) on the relevance of Safety Cases and they are also keen to conduct a similar Response Effectiveness study which was conducted in the UK; something OSRL is supporting them in achieving.
