Event Info:

This is the second of the four technical webinars scheduled for this year as part of the collaboration between ATSEA-2 Regional Project Management Unit (RPMU) and OSRL. The topic of this webinar is on Oil Spill Response Strategies. An apt and relevant subject that builds upon the concepts of the previous webinar.

The topics of the previous webinar answered the questions, what are the causes of the spill and what resources are impacted. This webinar answers the question, of what should be done about it. More specifically, this webinar will provide an overview of the following response strategies:

  • Surveillance, Modelling and Visualization (SMV);
  • Offshore Surface and Subsea Dispersants;
  • Controlled In-Situ Burning;
  • At-sea Containment and Recovery; and
  • Shoreline Clean-up.

At the end of this 2-hour webinar, the participants should be able to:

  • understand different response strategies available
  • identify different surveillance options during response including their advantages and disadvantages;
  • provide background on principles and types of oil spill modelling; and
  • appreciate the benefits, limitations, and issues of different response strategies.

Experts from OSRL will provide their experience and case studies to demonstrate the applicability of each response strategy.
