Oil Spill Response Limited and Maritech Announces the Latest Iteration of Sea/Response, the Emergency Response Planning Tool for the Offshore Industry

Monday, August 9, 2021

Following a major update, Maritech, the maritime software and digital application specialist, has launched the third generation of its emergency planning tool, Sea/response – enhancing users’ ability to respond to an offshore incident quickly and effectively.

The updates are the result of an ongoing collaboration between Oil Spill Response, its SWIS subscribers and the technology experts at Maritech, which develops the Sea/ platform, including the Sea/response module.

Sea/response has been developed specifically for the offshore industry, designed to meet users’ multi-mission requirements, covering capping and containment, offset installation equipment (OIE), and relief well drilling. The SaaS-based solution automatically identifies vessels of opportunity and other critical assets during source control planning and response. It uses patented technology and proprietary data to determine the emergency vessels and equipment most suitable to a specific well or drill location via its intuitive and easy-to-use interface.

The partnership between OSRL and Maritech began in 2019 when Sea/response was made available to OSRL’s subsea subscribers (SWIS) as part of their subscription package. Since then, Maritech, OSRL, and its SWIS subscribers have extended their collaboration, providing valuable intelligence to Sea/response’s developers to ensure its features and functionality are aligned with known industry requirements and the specific challenges faced during an offshore incident.

With its latest release, Sea/response helps the industry move towards safer, faster emergency response solutions, with a platform that is more advanced, more accurate and more reliable than ever before.

Key new features include:

Ability to coordinate multiple missions

Simplify the complexity of managing emergency response missions with the ability to plan and oversee everything related to the response in one place, providing more robust control, accuracy, and confidence for operational teams.

Monitor supply and reduce manual monitoring

Monitoring vessel availability and capability within a specific region is a crucial requirement. The latest update provides the ability to save individual vessels within the platform's ‘My Fleet’ section, reducing manual monitoring with notifications on vessel movements.

Anticipate weather changes

Sea/response now offers an overlay of weather patterns to the vessel route map, improving the accuracy of ETAs, or informing users of alternative, faster and safer routes.

Andrew Worrall, Senior Technical Specialist, BP Capping and Containment, said: “We are delighted to be involved in this valuable platform, helping to maximise the application’s effectiveness for the entire industry. The latest updates to Sea/response will make a notable difference, particularly in remote locations, providing all operators with greater visibility of any emerging risks and allowing them to react accordingly. It is another example of the collaborative approach that OSRL follows, increasing the service level it offers to subscribers through partnerships and mutually beneficial associations. The latest version of Sea/response not only facilitates significant reductions in incident response times, but also allows for real-time monitoring of mutual aid vessel availability.”

Chris Lund, Subsea Project Engineering Manager, added: “By leveraging the unique data and insights that OSRL and its members hold – including the various Source Control Mission Plans found in the SWRP Capping & Containment Guidelines – the latest iteration of Sea/response has become an even more valuable tool for the industry, significantly reducing response times in the moments when every second counts.”

Sea/response spokesperson, Paul Love, adds: “At Maritech, we are committed to developing solutions that accurately and intuitively reflect the needs of the industry, and answer otherwise challenging questions. With the latest updates to Sea/response, once again, we have raised the bar and designed a solution that has been heavily informed by those who will use it. On that note, we are delighted to have secured OSRL’s SWIS members as users of Sea/response. SWIS members represent some of the industry’s biggest and most environmentally-aware players, so it really demonstrates the value they see in the technology and the ongoing collaboration between each party.”
