Membership Benefits

Membership gives you guaranteed ready access to response services 24 hours a days, 365 days of the year, no matter where and when you need us. Alongside guaranteed response, there are many benefits of Membership with OSRL.

Calls to the Duty Team

Our Duty Team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every single day of the year.

We’re ready to take Members' call and give the advice needed, whatever the situation. This can range from sense-checking the actions taken during an ongoing small incident to letting us know of a potential incident emerging. From testing communications protocols in an OSCP to chekcing what is covered with a specific membership, right through to involvement in a planned exercises or drills. Always at the end of the phone, the Duty Manager is ready to answer any kind of call.

Exercises and Drills

There are many reasons to regularly exercise; test capabilities and develop staff competencies, validate and enhance knowledge of your plans, test procedures and identify gaps for improvements to address. Whatever your reasons we’re here to support you as part of your membership, here’s how:

  • Remote participation in your exercises – you can call our Duty Team any time to participate in your exercises and drills. We can provide real-time 2D modelling and logistics information, advice on mobilisation processes, actions taken and much more.
  • We can come to you – an OSRL team can be deployed to your location for the duration of your exercise. We can fit into your IMS structure, taking roles in Planning, Operations & Logistics, provide IMS coaching and Section Chief support or even participate in practical deployments.

Why not get involved in our planned exercises too! We have our annual Global Exercise Planner, which includes a Calendar - check it out to find and see if you’re available.

Preparedness Review

Every Member is entitled to at least one Preparedness Review each year. We will meet our Members wherever, and however they desire, whether that's virtual or face-to-face. And if we can, we’ll conduct as many meetings as needed throughout the year. A Preparedness Review can take many forms, here's some examples of the types of reviews conducted over the years:

  • Review of existing Oil Spill Contingency Plans (OSCP) to check currency and compliance with industry good practice
  • Logistics workshop to work through the likely pinch points during a mobilisation
  • A table-top exercise based on a relevant and realistic scenario
  • A review of Tier 1 or 2 equipment either on-site or through local contracting arrangements
  • An environmental impact assessment
  • A session to understand how best to integrate surface and subsea response activities
  • A reminder of OSRL’s services and how to mobilse us in the event of an incident

Member Forums

There are several opportunities throughout the year to come together, share information and be a part of something special. Members are able to shape OSRL’s strategic direction and join us in advocating industry good practice. Here are some of the events OSRL Members can expect to be involved in thoughout the year:

  • Global Forums held alongside the bi-annual AGM (June) and EGM (December) events
    • Here we share lessons learned from recent incidents and seek Member input into the development of OSRL.
  • Regional Forums and Workshops
    • Specific to the region, we share recent case studies, good practice, service enhancements and technological developments helping Members in their preparedness and ongoing activities.
  • Engagement activities with Regulator with or on behalf of our Members
    • Here we can help relationships with regulators in Members' areas of operation to advocate messaging around Preparedness and Response, the use of SIMA/NEBA, Dispersant approvals and cross-border cooperation.

On-Site Technical Advice - 5 personnel for 5 days

We can send five personnel to a Members' incident location for five days in-field to give technical advice for an ongoing incident, or even to the threat of a potential incident. In these siutaions, early notification is key; the sooner we know, the sooner we can assist - this will help ensure Members are in the most optimal place to deal with what lies ahead.

We can advise in any capacity, here are the most common ways we’ve assisted Members during these five days of free advice:

  • Advocate / implement Industry “Good Practice"
  • Technical advice and incident management coaching within the command centre
  • Development of an Incident Management Plan
  • Training and Supervision of contractors
  • In-country logistics planning and support for inbound equipment
  • Environmental Impact Assessments and advice on response strategy selection
  • Shoreline and aerial surveillance/quantification surveys
  • Tactical Response Planning
  • Wildlife planning

There is no commitment for continued support, no risk, no costs, even our travel costs are free.
