In May, the UK-based members of Operations Team 1A left the comfort of our Southampton base for a week of exercises, team building and organised fun with the Weymouth Harbour Team.

Our Marketing and Communications team recently participated in a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) day, conducting a beach clean on Weston Shore, near our Southampton Base in the UK.

Our engineering apprentice, Joe Hartley, works in our Equipment Hire Services team and is already learning a lot from the team around him.

This week sees the start of Earth Week celebrations culminating in Earth Day on 22 April. World Earth Day has been celebrated every year on 22 April since 1970. 

As a company, we have a role to play in contributing to a cleaner and healthier world. The theme of this year's Earth Day, "Invest In Our Planet," aligns closely with our core purpose, with the origins of Earth Day also holding significance for us, sparked by the Santa Barbara, California, oil spill in 1969, As a global organisation specialising in oil spill response and environmental services, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact and promoting sustainable practices. Following our involvement in the nurdle spill in Sri Lanka, we have formed a Plastics Working Group (PWG) - Find out more about what the group is up to.

Our new CEO, Vania De Stefani, has been on a world tour since joining the company in January. This tour has included visits to different regions and meetings with numerous colleagues, member companies, shareholders, and business partners.  We met with Vania to ask her a few questions about her recent trips. 

To acknowledge World Wetlands Day on 2 February 2023, OSRL joined a clean-up operation organised by Bapco and other oil and gas companies in the Bahrain Mangrove Forest, a sensitive ecological resource home to various bird species and popular for kayaking. The team conducted the clean-up carefully, avoiding harm to the habitat, animals, and birds and being cautious of snakes. After the clean-up, they transported the waste to a designated disposal area, evaluated the shoreline's condition using Shoreline Cleanup Assessment Technique (SCAT), and discussed future clean-up plans with Bapco to cover a wider area. The experience was an excellent reminder to the team of the environment's sensitivity.
