Early Engagement of Stakeholders in Wildlife Preparedness is Crucial: An Overview of a Contingency Planning Workshop in Nigeria

As part of The Global Initiative for West, Central and Southern Africa (GI-WACAF), the Southern African Foundation For The Conservation Of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB) and ITOPF facilitated a four-day workshop on oiled wildlife contingency planning for the Nigerian authorities in June 2023. The workshop was hosted by the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) and was attended by around 126 participants from national and regional authorities, as well as the oil industry. The workshop covered topics such as the impacts of oil on wildlife, best practices for wildlife response, case studies and contingency planning preparation.
