OSRL's Offline course is put in place to train new staff, like myself, in the world of oil spill response. This is my 5-day diary from the final week.

We ran a NO NOTICE DRILL yesterday in our Emergencies Operations Centre (EOC) to test our competency and prove our ability to meet our Service Level Agreement (SLA).

Last week six members from the OSRL response team in Southampton visited the Flotta oil terminal in Orkney to support an exercise with response staff from Repsol Sinopec.

The Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE) hold their second large Oil Spills in Arctic Areas Conference, Bjørnar Fonn and Jamie Anderson attend to represent the cold weather group. 

"For me personally it is a real enjoyment delivering the OPEP courses in person and seeing the individuals developing and leaving with skills and knowledge they may not have previously had."

Emergency responders, natural resource managers, and scientists came together to discuss oil spill response efforts in coastal wetlands. They discussed new research, lessons learned and successes from past response efforts, and research gaps that improved partnerships may be able to fill. 

OSRL recently travelled to Antalya, Turkey to conduct a published Aerial Surveillance Course and IMO 2 Clearance Course in collaboration with MOST Maritime and Environmental Service Company (Turkey).

Matt Simmons, our Operations Manager in Americas, recently represented OSRL in HSET meeting organised by the Association of Petroleum Industry Co-op Managers (APICOM). He shares with us some insights.
